I grew up in St Kilda, Melbourne we lived there till the 80’s. What was St Kilda like well it was totally different. Rough, fast and chaos I was only young and grew up in one of the roughest area around Melbourne. My parents had a mini supermarket in fitzroy st across the road from all the high rise apartment/ commission complex, me and my younger brother and sister seen alot of things that you’d wish young children would never experience. From stabbings to shootings it was ful on back in the early 80’s. Bojangles night club was the roughest area lucky we were too young to mingle there.
Luna Park was a 5 min drive away and dad use to take us down every now and then, st Kilda beach was a beautiful place to play and fish also.
We attendant the St Kilda Primary school a historicle landmark it was only 1 block away from were we use to live above mum and dad’s business. I drove down to Melbourne a few weeks ago and by golly things have changed for the better. St Kilda is a mega tourist place now, eateries everywhere the beach cleaner. It bought a few good memories back when we use to live here 25 odd yeas ago. My god time flys.. To be continued……
Web Hosting and Domain registration
Web Hosting refers to services that provide space for users to store their website content. Or Website information such as images, video, or any other content accessible through the Web that needs to be stored on a computer server located in a secure and climate controlled environment that is permanently connected to the internet through high speed data lines. This server space is referred to as Web Hosting.
Without somewhere to host a website, there is no website. Web hosting allows users to store their website contents in a safe managed space.
Obtaining Hosting.
Web hosting is often provided as part of a general Internet access plan; there are many free and paid providers offering these types of web hosting. I use godaddy and have found them good for what my needs are.
A customer needs to evaluate the requirements of the application to choose what kind of hosting to use. Such considerations include database server software, scripting software, and Operating system.
Most hosting providers provide Linux-based web hosting which offers a wide range of different software. The web hosting client may want to have other services, such as email for their business domain, databases or multimedia services. A customer may also choose Windows as the hosting platform. There are a lot of Web hosting packages often include a
Web Content Management System, so the end-user does not have to worry about the more technical aspects.
Domain Name Registrations.
Before you can setup a presence on the internet, you need an easy way for people to find you.
This is done by registering and using your own domain name. Be careful – There are certain things to look out for when registering a domain name! even though it is relatively cheap, a domain name can become very valuable once your business grows, so put the correct emphasis on it now!
Once you’ve registered your domain and your site is up and running. It is something you generally forget about when it is working…even though it may be registered incorrectly.
Email Accounts.
Far too often businesses use a generic email address from one of the free providers out there. This is fine for personal email, but for a business it’s not good enough!
And the funny thing is, the proper email address wouldn’t cost a cent more than is already being paid. Because the domain name is already registered and their website is also already active using their Website Hosting package, so why not take advantage of this.
Living in Greece part 1
We were of on a normal holiday as a family, mum, dad and 3 children this time it was different. We ended up staying for 4 whole years opposed to the 3 month stays we use to have.
Being only young 12yrs old I was excited, we attendant schooling in Patra were we lived, me parents had a few dramas enroll ing us in school being Australians we weren’t allowed to do schooling unless me parents made as duel citizens. This sounded all good and was easy but dramas started later on in live with national service.
Schooling was great there it only consisted of 4 hours a day in the late arvo, sport was huge there also, I competed in javelin, shot put, hurdles, swimming, long pole, sprint which I was no good at at marathon running which suited me better distances over 10km up to 40km. Not like here in Australia were sport is pretty basic in Greece sport was huge to participate and compete, schooling was great also even tho it was 4 hours a day it was advanced schooling as when we returned to Australia I missed a year 7 and went to year 8 straight up. I thought wow that’s great.

Staying in Singapore
Very humid place like always we use to frequent Singapore en route to Europe every few years this time in the late 80’s while still young we staying for 2 weeks at the Merchant Court (Swisotel) on Clarke Quaay, the pool area is amazing and location excellent.
A very nice place to visit plenty of attractions and history close by
Singapore National Museum
There are always interesting international exhibitions going on, with a small section bringing the traveling exhibition to a local context. In the exhibition on treasures from Ukraine, there is a bit at the end describing the importance of gold in Asian cultures as well. A great place to hide from the humid weather also.
Singapore Zoo
A marvelous place when we visited. I recall many innovative designs in terms of how the space was laid out. There are very few ‘cages’ and you often look down on the dangerous animals in a way that seems like you are right there. Elephant rides were a real treat and I also remember an exotic bird literally sitting on a tree in the middle of the pedestrian path. Ground-breaking stuff. A beautiful place.
I always travel to the Philippines the last few years via Singapore I like the new airport Changai Aiport, maybe in the near future will stay for a week or 2 now as I’ve grown up abit, can get around and visit places of interest as back in the 80’s we were only children.
Mandatory Military Service in Greece
Just received a letter from the Consulate General of Greece in Melbourne, but it was addressed to my brother who is single with no kids. The letter stated to contact the army section and supply the following. ” Bring records of international movements since birth and all passwords, wow unreal they always know were you are and can be called into military service were-ever you live on the planet.
How did this come about, well back in 80’s we went to Greece it was a normal holiday we use to venture of every couple of years only ever for 3 months at a time. This time we decided to stay for a few years this was exciting news for us. Even tho we were Australian citizens we could come and go at our leisure, we’ll not as easy as that. My parents were born in Greece and even us kids we were born in Australia. Greece is a lovely place people were family orientated, I’ll write a post about Greece soon on another post.
We couldn’t go to school, as we had to be registered as Greek citizens, finally my parents changed all that and we could attend school, we stayed for 4 years and us kids wanted to go back to aussie land we missed it so we ventured back in 1985.
I went over back to Greece in 2005 to oversea a property we were selling it was a spur of the moment, landing in Greece it felt good being able to see all me relations once again, this is when the trouble all started. The lady in immigration told me that she is going to hold my passport, being stunned I had a bit of an argument with her. All it was is that I haven’t served me military service, I explained to her I’m only here for 2 weeks and I have a leeway of 30 days but nope she kept saying that I’ll be detained as soon as I return to immigration to fly back to Australia.
Panic panic I had my parents fax me over my kids certificates etc, I went to see a military general I think he was, luckily my uncle works high up in the office were the general was stationed, He finally was convinced with all the paperwork and that I couldn’t be detained as I had children I was still feeling scared but no questions asked I left in good spirit.
Now finally finding everything out, wished I’d known earlier, when we were Enrolled in Greece to attend schooling this made it mandatory to serve in the military later on in life. Now it’s my brothers turn he is 41, probably will never return to Greece but there still calling his name up and now sending him letters to go and see them in Melbourne.
Below are extracts of there site;
All men between the age of 19 and 45* with Greek citizenship or those designated by Greek authorities as being of Greek origin, ancestry or descent — regardless of country of birth, current citizenship, passport or domicile — must serve mandatory military service.
Exceptions are if you are unfit or have 3 children.
Themes Part 1
There are many themes out there littery thousands of them, which is the best one? Well there are many to chose from paid themes or free themes. I have done plenty of research and have found the paid themes are the best ones why? Because they offer much more versatility you can do more to them than a free theme, don’t get me wrong there are plenty of free good themes out there but I find them limited to how you can manipulate them.
WordPress has some nice free themes like the twenty eleven, twenty twelve and so on, themefrost is another good site for themes there are plenty to chose from. I like the studiopress themes that run a genesis framework. Framework is the Motor that runs the theme pretty much you can have the best looking theme out there but under all the paint and glimmer is the motor that runs it any good or limited to what you can do? Genises is a bullet proof SEO ready one of th best around I have found, obviously the genises does cost you to buy it. Worth every cent the genises framework I run them on all me sites that I have.
